Even a few hours of volunteer work can make a difference in the lives of those striving for a safe and stable home.
On December 11th, a group of CapitalSource and CapitalSource Bank employees visited a Doorways for Women and Families home with that fact in mind. They spent a few hours cleaning and organizing the facility’s refrigerators and freezers, assembling and stocking a shelving unit, and disinfecting the toy room—relatively easy tasks that anyone can master, yet cumulatively the volunteer hours had a great impact on the safety and daily living of the residents. Doorways Facility Manager Susan Hennessy was thrilled, noting the CapitalSource and bank volunteers “didn’t waste a moment in getting down to work, and in fact, didn’t STOP working until the event ended.”
Doorways for Women and Families offers safe shelter to abused, homeless, and at-risk women and families as well as assistance with developing the tools and resources essential to reclaiming self-sufficiency—goal setting, financial education, childcare, health and nutrition instruction and much more.
